Financial Planning for Figure Skating
Committing to a sport can be daunting when you don't know what to budget for. Here's all you need to know about the costs associated with figure skating.
Memberships
There are two memberships that are mandatory to participate in our programming. Both include an annual fee paid in September to maintain membership:
Skate Canada Membership Fee: $65.00
Kits FSC Membership Fee: $25.00
Registration
All of Kits FSC programs have an associated registration fee paid quarterly; Fall, Winter, Spring, Summer. Please visit our registration page for more details on the exact amounts.
All Ages CanSkate, your registration fee pays for the following: Ice time, coached lesson time. This is an 'all in one' payment. Your annual membership fees are the only other expenses that will be incurred.
Adult CanSkate, PreStar, Star 1 Dev, your registration fee pays for the following: Ice time, coached lesson time, off-ice training. This is an 'all in one' payment. Your annual membership fees are the only other expenses that will be incurred.
Star 2+ / Adult : Your registration fee pays for: ice time.
Additional fees will be charged for:
- Registering for off ice training
- Private/Semi-Private coached lessons
Coach Invoices
Lessons: At the Star 2+ level, our Skate Canada certified coaches will track lesson times and submit invoices to skaters on a monthly basis. These invoices will be informed by length of a skaters lesson and the coach's personal rate. We politely ask skaters to resolve their invoices as soon as they are able. Failure to do so may result in being denied further lessons until payment is received. Questions or concerns regarding coach invoices can be directed to your coach or the Program Director.
Choreography & Music fees: additional fees will be further invoiced for the work of establishing choreography and music for a skaters program. Please discuss rates with your coach prior to these services being provided.
What you can expect to pay
Fall + Winter = 26 Weeks *(Combined registration is standard for all programs except CanSkate)
CanSkate: 1 weekly lesson for 26 weeks = $350 ($175 per Season)*
PreStar: 1 weekly lesson for 26 weeks = $470
Star 1 Development: 2 weekly lessons for 26 weeks = $940
Star 2 + / Adult twice week + Off Ice twice a week + Coach Fees twice a week; all for 26 weeks = $480 on ice + $390 off ice + $1040 coach fees (based on 15min lessons) = $1910

StarSkate Level Testing
The Skate Canada fee for assessing a StarSkate fee is $15 per attempt.
Skaters should anticipate 1 - 2 tests per annual season. Please speak with your coach about fee payment prior to scheduling a StarSkate level test.
Local Competition
Your first Star 1 Competition: All expenses paid by the club. This includes registration fee and coach fee.Additional Star 1 Competitions: Skaters are responsible for the following; Competition Registration fee, Coach fee (flat fee OR mileage+time fee. To be discussed with coach prior to competition day)
Star 2+ / Adult Competitions: Skaters are responsible for the following; Competition Registration fee, Coach fee (flat fee OR mileage+time fee. To be discussed with coach prior to competition day)
Travel Competition
Star 2+ / Adult Competitions: Skaters are responsible for the following;- Competition Registration fee
May include:
- Travel expenses such as gas, flights, car rentals, etc
- Accommodation expenses such as hotel, etc
- Per-diem or meal reimbursements
- Coached time for warm up and competition duration
